What is Art? (Part 1 of 4)

Art as defined by Ayn Rand, the only philosopher who has defined Art. (25 september 1996)
05:30 “Art is a selective recreation of reality according to the artist metaphysical value judgment.” – Ayn Rand via Mary Ann Sures, konst historiker
06:00 “When she says metaphysical value judgment, she just means the ones that really are at the root of his whole view of thing, not just his value judgment as to what toothpaste he likes or what brand sofa or what brand of soup.” – Leonard Peikoff
Förenklat: “It’s a selective recreation of reality according to the artist basic value judgment.”

Mary Ann: ”Does man have the power of choice? Can he choose values? Can he choose goals? Can he achieve them? This is the basic issue for man."
Leonard: “You mean some people would say yes to that and someone would say “no”?”
Mary Ann: “Right. Supposing you´re an artist and you say yes, man does have to power to choice, he is a self confident, self-assured being. He can go after what he wants. He can get it. If you give that answer as an artist then you are going to make something like Michelangelos “David “, which shows a self-assured being ready for action. But supposing you say “no, that’s not the essence of man. Man can’t really achieve anything in life; he can’t find happiness. All he can do is surrender to defeat and let’s say lonely despair.” Now that´s another judgment of man as helpless and if that´s your views of man as an artist then you are going to do something like the sculpture Wilhelm Lehmbruck.”
11:30 Mary Ann: “Two basic value judgment of man.”

What is Art? (Part 2 of 4)
8:35 Mary Ann: ”Why do we need art you’re asking?”
Leonard: “Yes.”
Mary Ann: “Is it a luxury? No, art is a necessity.”
Leonard: “An actual necessity of human life?”
Mary Ann: “Yes.”
Leonard: “Really? Like food in effect?”
Mary Ann: “Well, no it doesn’t pertain to his physical survival. What it pertains to is his spiritual survival.”
10:55 “I can’t point to a stature. I can’t point to a painting and say yes, that’s the meaning of life to me. That’s what’s important. That’s why you know the saying is; A picture is worth a thousand words. And man needs to see it because hi’s in danger of losing that perspective of what’s important. So many things can happen in one’s life, one can’t control. He needs the power to summon his basic values and to reaffirm them. He has to see them. And that’s why art is vital to survival.” – Mary Ann Sures, sept 25, 1996. Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nI3eqFgieyc

Modern konst?
Är "modern art".. konst? Ni vet bubblor, streck hit och dit, påkastad färg osv.. Saker som inte kan förstås..
Mary Ann Sured ger oss svaret:

7:40 ”If you mean by modern art; non objective, things without subjects, unintelligible? No it’s not art.” – Mary Ann Sures, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GVvmNYms09o
